Study tips | Part 1

Studying... what a chore! You come home from school, tired and sleep deprived only to have to do homework and study for that history test on Friday. Whose got the time? Looking back to when I was in my final year of high school just last year, I'm not sure how I coped with a heavy workload filled with test after test, and still had time to watch my favourite TV shows and hang out with friends. Now at university, I find it more difficult to find the motivation be able to complete all of the set tasks. Hellooo... motivation... where are you? Probably because after a very laid back 3 and a half month summer holiday after year 12, the demons of laziness took control. I really struggled to get back into a routine.

As a student who strives to get high marks, and feels guilty for not completing homework, I feel as though I am somewhat qualified to give you guys advice of how to study effectively. Please remember that everyone has a different technique of studying and what is best suited for them. These tips are my way of studying.

1. Highlight important parts in the textbook as you read the chapters: This will save a lot of time when it comes to exams and writing up summary notes. Instead of wasting time going over the chapters again, you will already have the main points highlighted.

2. Write summary notes: Summarise the important parts of the chapters. There is no use in reading pages and pages of the textbook before a test/exam, as you essentially will not be able to remember all of it. But if you've got a photographic memory, then by all means, be my guest and read the textbook again ha ha! I find it easier to memorise the content if I condense the chapters into handwritten notes with the key components.
Optional: I also try to memorise the definitions word for word. This may be difficult, but when you have to define something in an exam it will just come to you and you are certain to get full marks. Even in questions where you have to 'discuss' or 'explain' or 'critically evaluate', it is useful to define key terms of the question at the beginning (I will talk about this in part 2 of my study tips). To memorise the definitions, read the definitions a few times. First to yourself, then read out loud. After you've done that multiple times, then look away from the paper and try to recite the definition out loud. If you struggle, then repeat the first steps, until it finally sinks in.

3. Work in a quiet environment: It is important that you study and do homework in an environment where there are no distractions. You will find it easier to concentrate, trust me!

4. Pretend you are talking to someone else: I have just recently started trying this trick, but you basically pretend you're explaining the information to someone else. I usually talk to myself in my room and pretend there’s an imaginary person that I'm trying to teach the information too ha! By doing this, you essentially are putting the information into your own words, helping you to retain and understand it. If you have a pet, you could teach them, they are great listeners ;)

5. Relate the information to yourself: Try relating the content to your life.

6. Have a good pen: A good pen that flows and is the right shade of blue/black is essential. Well I think so anyway. There is nothing appealing about a blue that is too light, or starting to run out. Am I right?

7. Make everything neat: By this I mean, write headings in a different colour pen, draw diagrams in different colours, and dot point information. I like to write headings in red pen, sub headings in black, and the main information in blue pen. It’s very pleasing to the eye this way. Also have an uncluttered workspace.

8. Have breaks: Without breaks, your brain will not be able to rest and you will find it harder to remember the information. I read that its beneficial if you take a 5 to 10 minute break every 30 minutes to an hour or so of studying.

9. Don't procrastinate: Don't get me wrong, this is easier said than done. I'm one of those people who will procrastinate for 3 hours when the task takes only 10 minutes. Try not to fall into this trap! You will get things done quicker and you'll have guilt-free free time afterwards.

10. DO NOT LEAVE THINGS TO THE LAST MINUTE: This is written in capitals because this is probably the most important tip I can give you! Do not leave any homework and assignments to the last minute. It is really not fun having to rush things, staying up late in a bid to finish everything when you've known you've had to do this for 3 weeks now. Don't think "ahhh, I've go time, I'll do it tomorrow", because before you know it, you're up at 4am the night before trying to complete an assignment. If you do parts of the task each week leading up to the due date, you will reduce your stress levels, and avoid that dreaded last-minute rush.

Okey dokey, I think that is all for now. I know this is a boring topic but I feel like I should share some of my secrets! You have to work hard to get that A+, you can't just wake up in the morning and be Einstein.

I LOVE EUROVISION!!

Source
YIIIII!!! ITS EUROVISION TIME AGAIN! YIPEE!!!!

I look forward to this time every year, and cheer on the various european countries, battling it out on stage to be crowned the next Eurovision champion. Even though I live in Australia, I am the BIGGEST fan of this competition! I absolutely love everything about it - the atmosphere, Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang (the commentators which make me laugh so hard!), the singing, the costumes, the lighting effects, EVERYTHING!

Yesterday, the first semifinals were shown on SBS, so i'll share some of my favourite performances.
I particularly liked Montenegro, with singer Sergej Ćetković, who sung 'Moj Svijet' and it was even better that he was singing in the original language! Plus he looked so happy and it seemed as though he was really enjoying himself.

Source
I also really liked András Kállay-Saunders, who sung 'Running', and he was representing Hungary. he sung about a serious issue, but paired it with an up-tempo tune. I really liked his voice!

Sweden was another country I enjoyed! Her (Sanna Nielsen) voice was amazing! She sun a song called 'Undo'

'Winning' moments of the week

Source
Now, I had a snazzy idea of writing about 'winning' moments of the week. You know those moments where something unexpectedly good happens and you're like "ohhhh WINNING!" No, just me? Ok...
HAHA anyways, I wanted to write about them for this week, but nothing really win-worthy happened unfortunately. Soooo, I decided to merge last week and this week into one.

1. Asked for 2 potato cakes, and the guy gave me 3!! WINNING!

2. Lecture at university finished 30 minutes earlier. WINNING!

3. Came late to class and the teacher wasn't even there. WINNING!

4. Ran to the bus and just made it. WINNING!

Ok, this is quite embarrassing but I can't even think of anymore now... I just found out my score for my economy test and its less than what I hoped for... :'(

I'll write the moments down for next week, so I won't forgot it and will bring you more!
I apologize!

A practical and stylish accessory - Watches

Without a doubt, I believe a watch is an essential accessory. For a person that doesn't wear much jewellery in her every day life, my watch is always on my wrist. Not only is it stylish, but it is also practical. It can be useful in telling the time, with an added benefit of looking great with any outfit.

I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs Henry Skeleton Automatic watch in rose gold (photographed above), and it is honestly my most prized possession. I wear it everywhere, and I feel quite bare without it on my wrist. Where the writing sits, it is clear and the fluro insert moves around as your arm does, which 'charges' the watch, so no need for batteries. It also isn't too heavy which is a bonus! As I have small wrists, I find that bracelets don't always fit me properly, so a watch is a great option for me!

I have been eyeing off Marc Jacobs' watches for a while and when my Dad bought this for me in May last year, I was ecstatic!

I feel as though watches will always be a trend, and whatever you're price range, I'm sure you can find a watch to match it.

What is your favourite accessory?

University???

Tomorrow is the day I 'officially' start University!!! Three and a half months of summer holiday has gone too quickly for my liking, but there's nothing I can do about that. I am so so so nervous about starting and it doesn't help that I'm alone. Because I'm going to a University where I don't know anyone, I don't have any friends, and I'm one of those people who don't fancy being by themselves in new situations, or in any social situations as a matter of fact. Going into the unknown is scaring me, A LOT! I'm so unsure about how much work I'm expected to do, how tutorials work, if I need textbooks, I don't know... To quote one of my favourite songs at the moment 'Rather Be' by Clean Bandit Ft. Jess Glynne, "It's a shot in the dark but I'll make it."

To end on a positive note, I'll take you through some adventures I had on my summer break.

Puffing Billy is an old railway station where you ride an old steam train they used to use in the 'olden days'
My cousin, brother and myself
A place called Rippon Lea. A house that has been preserved from the 1800's, excellent for history buffs like me :)

Melbourne at night is so beautiful!

Grease the Musical
Now, I had to write up a little paragraph about Grease the Musical because it was the best thing I have EVER seen and thats not even an over-exageration, it truly was! The cast was amazing, their singing was amazing and their acting was amazing. They were so natural up on that stage, and it was funny, and sad and happy and every other emotion all at the same time. They engaged the audience into their performance and of course I was singing along.. DUHHH! Grease is probably my favourite movie of all time, so to see it executed so well as a musical mad eke so happy. I would HIGHLY recommend you watch this, it is a must!

At Hofbrauhaus - A German restaurant
Some Wiener schnitzel anyone?
German Beer
It wouldn't be summer without going to the beach right?

Clothing Haul

Recently, I went on a much needed shopping trip and bought some new clothes. I'm not really sure about you guys but I really enjoy shopping. It's like a whole experience for me and I believe it to be very therapeutic - although when you see something you want really really badly and its out of your price range, it becomes quite the opposite of therapeutic HAHA. There's just something I love about feeling and touching the clothes on the rack, I'm not really sure why but I love the fabric through my fingers (I'm weird, don't judge... haha). Ok... I think I've dawdled enough, i'll just show you what I bought before you get bored!

Now bear in mind that I'm from Australia and most of the shops, no actually, ALL of the shops in this post are Australian... I'm not entirely sure if these shops are also in other countries around the world, but I think it's still good to show you what I bought so you could possibly get some inspiration from them, or maybe even find something similar. In saying that, I think that these stores are somewhat the equivalent of Primark... Maybe...
Anyways, now that you've got the idea, here it goes.

The first shop is: Chic-a-booti
Mmm dat quality doe!
Just bought these 2 cardigans... nothing special.

From Chic-a-Booti I bought these two cardigans, an essential (I think) in everyones wardrobe. Wanted black, but than I thought i'm going to buy a black blazer and black trench coat, so decided for a grey and coral-y option instead. It was on sale, 2 for $20! Size: Large

Next Shop: Colette (a jewellery store)
I thought the bag had a great design, and in my fav colour as well!
Here I bought 2 pieces of jewellery. They were having a 3 for 2 sale, so my mum bought something for herself too haha! This bracelet is gold, probably not real, and it was $12.95. It's like a cuff and I'm a sucker for gold/rose gold jewellery!

Also bought a necklace for $12.95. This caught my eye because it was chunky. I thought it was going to be heavy, but I've already worn it on a night out and it didn't even feel as though I was wearing it! Another plus to this necklace is that it can be used like a choker or something a bit longer.

Third shop is: Ally Fashion

Thought the bag was super cute!

So this singlet (or 'vest' as some people like to call it) was only a mere $15 and in a Austrlian size 6 (US size 2, Euro size 34). I loved the blue, and the mirror image. Sort of reminded me of when you painted in primary school and you only painted on one side of the paper, folded it, and when you opened it, it had a mirrored effect. I've seen this kind of style on many dresses so i guess it's 'in' at the moment. Also, the back is just black, nothing exciting, however, i love a printed top with a plain back, WINNING!

This next top is from: Valley Girl

I'm not really a florally type of gal however I strangely like it. It almost looks like a painting on the front of the top, and once again, a plain white back ;) The material is also very light, good for summer, and as seeing were still having summer in March, I thought it was a good purchase for $15.
Size: 8 (US size 4)

Painting or t-shirt?

This next item is from: Supre for only $10
Size: Small

Mind the crinklyness, I hate crinkly clothes but could not be bothered ironing. Lazy.

I don't normally shop in Supre. Their clothes just do not appeal to me. But if you're ever in need for cheap basics, this is the place to go! These shorts are super comfy, and loose, and literally go with EVERYTHING! You can't go wrong.

Next Shop: Dotti

I bought these denim jeans for $69.95 and I got a second pair free, which was good! The darker ones are high waisted and in an Australian size 12 (I have a big booty). The lighter ones, which are my fav, are in a size 11. I thought this was great because size 10 was a bit small, and size 12 was a bit big so I really needed something in between. I'm so happy with the colour of the lighter jeans. I loved the shade of blue, and they're sort of whiter in the middle of the legs. Both of them are 'super tube', which is even skinner than skinny jeans, yay! OH AND THE BEST THING IS THERE IS NO BUILD UP OF JEANS AT THE BOTTOM! THEY SIT PERFECTLY AT THE BASE OF YOUR ANKLE WOOOO!

Loved the zip detail!

 Last shop is: Temt

A closer look at the detail

I purchased this jumper for only $24.99 in an Australian size 8 (US size 4). I loved the monochrome/black and white look and i've already gotten compliments on it. The front part is thin and delicate, but not see through, a little bit different. And the sleeves have sort of a woollen feel. And the back, you've guessed it, plain black! I love this!

Ok, so that has been my haul. Don't ask why I took pictures of the bags, I'm not quite sure myself to be honest HAHA! Anyways, hope you've enjoy this post, and maybe found some inspiration.

Byeeeee x
